Kerala remained dry during February and first week of March. It was the second week of March that the state witnessed few spells of good showers. Sporadic showers with isolated moderate spells have been recorded most parts of Kerala since last few days. These rains remain confined to southern neighborhoods, while northern districts continued to observe dry and humid weather.
During last 24 hours as well, scattered rain and thundershowers, with one to two moderate spells have been recorded over Kerala. Rain activity recorded in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am from Tuesday, Punalur observed 15.4 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 3 mm of rainfall.
The reason for these rain and thundershowers can be attributed to the presence of a trough. This system is extending from Lakshadweep to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh across North Interior Karnataka.
As per Skymet Weather, though the rain intensity is now expected to reduce, but isolated rain and thundershowers will continue. Most districts of Kerala will witness warm and humid conditions, leading to uneasiness and discomfort. Besides this, temperatures are also expected to rise in the state.
Usually, March and April are not the rainy months for Kerala; however intermittent showers cannot be ruled out over the region.
