Rain in Kerala, parts of Karnataka and Lakshadweep to continue with reduced intensity

During the last 24 hours, Northeast Monsoon remained active over Kerala as most parts of the state received light to moderate rains. South interior Karnataka also received few spells of rain. Meanwhile, the Lakshadweep region witnessed moderate rain showers over most places.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kottayam recorded 77 mm of rain, followed by Minicoy 32 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 31 mm, Karipur 26 mm, Alappuzha 13 mm, Mangaluru 6 mm and Kozhikode 4 mm.

At present, a trough is extending from Lakshadweep to South Karnataka in the lower levels. However, it is likely to become less marked after 24 hours. Therefore, rains will continue with decreased intensity over South Karnataka and Kerala. Lakshadweep will continue with good rains for another 24h hours.

Mainly cloudy sky and humid day conditions will prevail over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka. The interior parts of South Karnataka will witness drop in night temperatures. Patchy fog along the hills of Karnataka may also occur.

North Interior Karnataka will remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky. Dry cool winds are expected to prevail over most parts of the state. Comfortable day conditions over Lakshadweep with cloudy sky.
