The timely onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala on May 30 brings cheer to the state when several districts of the state recorded showers of varied intensity. From isolated rainy spells to hefty showers, many districts of Kerala witnessed good rains.

Not only was this due to the arrival of Southwest Monsoon over the state but Cyclone Mora also played a crucial role in pulling the Monsoon over the Indian mainland including Kerala and Northeast India. Though Kerala had been witnessing occasional showers from more than a week, these rains significantly picked up the pace during the last 48-72 hours.

In fact, in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kochi recorded whopping showers of 58 mm, Kozhikode 23 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 24 mm and Alappuzha observed 23 mm os rainy spells. As per Skymet Weather, with the Southwest Monsoon progressing, rains will continue to pour over the state. However, 24 hours hence, due to the development of a cyclonic circulation over North Arabian Sea, the rain belt is expected to gradually move towards the Arabian Sea covering parts of the West Coast.

Hence, after 24 hours, the rain intensity over the state is likely to reduce marginally. Despite the marginal decrease in the rainfall over parts of the state, rains will keep on pouring over the state. Further, spanning June 5 and June 10, Southwest Monsoon is expected to cover almost the entire Kerala state along with Tamil Nadu, parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa, Andhra Pradesh and remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts of West Bengal.
