The hills of North India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand witnessed moderate to heavy rains, during the last 24 hours. All thanks to the easterly flow of winds from Bay of Bengal, which is still feeding enough moisture to induce cloud formation and good rains.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Dharamshala recorded 47 mm of rain, followed by Mandi and Manali 31 mm, Tehri 15 mm, Dehradun and Mukteshwar 10 mm, Pantnagar 6 mm, Shimla 5 mm.
But now due to the formation of depression over east central parts of the country, we expect rains to reduce over the Western Himalayas during the next 24 to 48 hours. However, weather conditions will not become absolutely dry as on and off rains will continue.
Further, around August 11, the weather system over Central India, will weaken and the axis of Monsoon trough will once again start moving towards north and we expect rains to again increase over foothills of Himalayas as well as hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Thus, we can say that moderate to heavy rains with chances of cloud burst are expected over parts of western Himalayas during that time. No significant relief from the ongoing rains will be witnessed.
