Good rains have been continuing in Jammu and Kashmir since the last two to three days. In fact, during the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains have been reported in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the data available with Skymet, Leh has recorded 70 mm of rainfall, followed by Gulmarg 61 mm, Pahalgam 54 mm and Qazigund 50.4 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

On the other hand, scattered rains have occurred in many parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

According to Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance that has been giving rains over the Western Himalayas, have now started moving away eastwards. Thus, we expect scattered light to moderate rain and thundershower activities in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir and in few parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the weather system will move away leading to dry weather in all the three hill states.

After the passage of this system, another Western Disturbance is expected around June 15. This system would remain intact over the Himalayas until June 17. The system will give a fresh spell of rain and thundershower activities in the region between June 15 and 17. Rains will occur mainly with light to moderate intensity. However, one or two heavy spells of rain cannot be ruled out.

The effect of this system is likely to extend up to the northern plains of the country in the form of dust storm and rain in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and North Rajasthan June 15 onwards.
