Back to back Western Disturbances have been causing rainfall activities over the hills of North India. In fact, higher reaches have also seen some snowfall in the same time frame. However, during the last 24 hours, in the absence of such system, weather remained dry over the hills.

Presently, a Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this, we expect isolated light rains to once again commence over Jammu and Kashmir.

By tonight, we expect light to moderate rains over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir and some areas of Himachal Pradesh. Isolated rains may occur over Uttarakhand as well. We expect moderate snowfall over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours.

By the evening of October 17, weather will start clearing up and will once again become dry. However, another feeble Western Disturbance is expected around October 19. This will give light rains with one or two moderate spells over Jammu and Kashmir and some parts of Himachal Pradesh. The system will be moving fast, therefore, by October 20, weather will once again become dry and clear.

Due to chances of moderate rain activities over the hilly regions, travelers are advised to take precautions as landslides and mudslides are in store for the Western Himalayas in the upcoming days.
