Rain in Karnataka, Kerala to continue, intensity to increase in Karnataka

This year pre-Monsoon rains over Karnataka and Kerala have been pretty good. Many districts of Karnataka have surpassed there monthly average rainfall including Bengaluru. The normal rainfall for Bengaluru for the month of May is 107.4 mm, while the city has so far received 169.3  mm of rains.

In the past day also many districts of Kerala and Karnataka recorded good rainfall activities. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Dharwad recorded rain to the tune of 63 mm of rains, Hassan 48.8 mm, Bengaluru 25 mm, Udhagamandalam 22 mm, Alapuzha 16 mm, Gadag 15.2 mm and Thrissur 11 of rains.

Since last one month or so, a north-south trough is extending from the central parts of the country to Tamil Nadu across the interior parts of Karnataka. This trough keeps on oscillating east to west which helps in enhancing rainfall activity over Kerala and Karnataka.

As per Skymet Weather, we expect rains to further increase over Karnataka including Bengaluru during the next 48 hours. In fact, few heavy spells are also possible.  Thereafter, the intensity of rains will reduce over Karnataka. However, rains Kerala would increase in intensity after 48 hours.

In fact, around May 28 or May 29, Monsoon 2018 is also likely to make an onset as all the necessary criteria’s for the onset of Monsoon are expected to be met. In wake of this, Kerala and Karnataka would see increase in rainfall by May 26-27.
