In view of the fresh Western Disturbance, rainfall will continue over the western Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas at least for next 2 days.
The system has brought fairly widespread but light rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir. In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Saturday, Pahalgam recorded 1.6 mm of rain, Kupwara 2.7 mm, Banihal 0.5 mm, Gulmarg 0.4 mm, Kokernag 1.8 mm, Qazigund 1.4 mm and Srinagar 0.6 mm of rain.
There are chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rain in some parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during next two days. This system will also lead to some thundery activity and dust storm in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, north Rajasthan and northwest Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night.
Temperatures in Northern plains
Due to rise in temperatures, convective clouds will now form and frequently give rise to thundery build up over the plains of North India. These thunderstorm activities will not do much to bring significant drop in temperatures, which have been rising gradually over the area.
On Saturday, the Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi recoded 38°C as maximum temperature. Places like Churu, Barmer, Bikaner and Ajmer in Rajasthan have already crossed 40°C. On Saturday, Barmer recorded 44.6°C as maximum temperature, which is the highest across India. According to Skymet, temperatures will only rise now and the probability of severe dust storm at a couple of places cannot be ruled out on Sunday.
Maximums are still near normal across Punjab and Haryana, but the mercury will gradually rise from now onwards.
