The previous Western Disturbance, though feeble, brought fairly widespread rain in Jammu and Kashmir in the last couple of days. The other two hilly states of North India, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, also received light rain.
Better conditions are expected in the coming days as no weather system will affect the region at least till April 26-27. However, snow starts losing its grip as the sun shines brightly and temperatures start increasing. Therefore, avalanche alert has been issued in the state.
Here’s a look at the rainfall figures in Jammu and Kashmir, in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday:
In Himachal Pradesh,Chambareceived 33 mm of rain,Manali25.4 mm,Keylong17 mm andKullu3.3 mm of rain.
The system has now moved away and rainfall intensity has reduced significantly as expected. However, the system brought snowfall in the higher reaches, triggering avalanche scare in the Kargil sector. Threat of avalanche will remain at least for next 3 days as the temperatures are likely to increase in Jammu and Kashmir.
