The hills of North India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been observing dry weather conditions since the last two to three days. However, during the last 24 hours, the higher reaches of all these states recorded light rainfall activity.
In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Tehri recorded 8 mm of rain, followed by Dharamshala 10 mm, Bhuntar 5 mm, Mandi 7 mm, Banihal 4 mm, Srinagar, Qazigund and Manali 1 mm.
At present, a Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining areas. In wake of this weather system we expect rains to commence over the hills of North India by today evening . These rains are expected to continue to till tomorrow over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir and isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh.
Thereafter, on November 11 and 12, intensity of rains will once decrease over the Western Himalayas. However, from November 12 night or November 13 morning, we expect another Western Disturbance to start effecting over the hills of North India.
Thus, we can say that in association with this system, on November 13 and 14, good rains are expected to lash the hilly regions especially Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. In fact, many parts of both these states will also experience moderate snowfall activity. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand will observe light to moderate rainfall activity.
Talking about the temperatures over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, the maximums are below normal by 2-5 degrees and minimums are below normal by 1-2 degrees. But in Uttarakhand both day and night temperatures are marginally below normal. Further we expect minimum temperatures over all the three states to rise marginally during the next two to three days.
