Since the last four days, the weather conditions over West Rajasthan are dry but scattered light rainfall activity has been going on in parts of East Rajasthan. However, during the last 24 hours, Monsoon picked up pace and moderate rains with few heavy spells were observed by some districts in East and South Rajasthan.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Bundi recorded 42 mm of rain, followed by Mount Abu 38 mm, Ajmer 24 mm, Alwar 16 mm and Jodhpur 8 mm.
According to skymet weather, these rains have been attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough passing across parts of Rajasthan. Along with this, the cyclonic circulation over Gujarat region has been further enhancing the rains. Further also, we expect similar weather conditions to prevail. Therefore, light rains with few moderate showers will continue in parts of Rajasthan for the next 24 hours.
Few spells of rain and thundershower are likely over Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dausa, Dhaulpur, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jalor, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Karauli, Kota, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Sirohi, Tonk and Udaipur the districts of Rajasthan during next 12-18 hours.
The state of Rajasthan is divided into two sub-divisions known as East Rajasthan and West Rajasthan. Even though the annual rainfall differs largely over both the sub-divisions, as East Rajasthan receives almost double the rains as compared to West Rajasthan.
In fact, the normal Monsoon season rainfall for East Rajasthan is 616 mm and is 263 mm for West Rajasthan. Thus, we can clearly make out that East Rajasthan region is more prone to rains. Meanwhile, West Rajasthan mainly witnesses dry and warm weather conditions.
This year also Monsoon season has shown satisfactory performance over Rajasthan. As of today, East Rajasthan is rain deficient by only 6% and West Rajasthan is deficient by 18%.
Although withdrawal of Monsoon season from West Rajasthan begins by the end of August or the first week of September, the eastern and southern parts still continue to witness light rainfall activity.
