Hyderabad is all set to witness another day of pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers on Friday. The capital city has been receiving rain for the last five consecutive days.
Further, weather conditions are still favourable for more activity in terms of light showers or thunderstorms along with squally winds during the next 24 hours. These on and off rains will continue for another 4 days, predicts Skymet Weather.
The city has been witnessing these pre-Monsoon showers during the late evening hours or early mornings. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Hyderabad has recorded 7 mm of rain which started around 7 pm.
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, pre-Monsoon rains are triggered by heat and available moisture in the air. Now a wind discontinuity can be seen from Vidarbha region to Comorin area across Telangana and Interior Karnataka. This has been feeding moisture over the city.
So the rise in mercury during afternoon hours along with the increased humidity levels leads to development of thunderclouds resulting in rain and thundershowers in later part of the day.
In wake of this, days will continue to be hot and humid. However, nights and mornings will be pleasant as minimum temperatures will continue to settle in low 20s i.e. four to five degrees below normal.
Ever since the beginning of pre-Monsoon season from March 1 till May 4, Hyderabad has recorded 22 mm of rain against the normal average of 38 mm. With this, the city is rain deficient by 42%.
While March saw just traces of rain, April recorded mere 9 mm of rain on April 18. However, May has commenced on a wet note for the city.
