This year Monsoon has been good over the northern regions of the country especially the northwestern plains, which saw rainfall in sufficing amounts.

This Monsoon season Western Himalayas received good rains. That’s why Jammu & Kashmir is surplus by 8%, while Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are also in the normal rain category. If we look at the numbers till now, Himachal Pradesh is deficient by just 4% and Uttarakhand by 2%.

Since last many days, Uttarakhand and parts of Himachal Pradesh have been receiving moderate to heavy rains. Due to these rains, many parts of these states are flooded. Landslides and mudslides are also being observed at many places.

Presently, the axis of Monsoon trough is running via North Haryana and North Uttar Pradesh close to the foothills. Therefore, we expect light to moderate rains to continue over Uttarakhand for the next 3 to 4 days.

Thereafter rainfall intensity may increase. Rains over Jammu & Kashmir may remain isolated and light.

So, we can say that the weather of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh will not become dry for at least next one week. It is advised to take precautions while traveling as chances of landslides, mudslides and traffic jams are possible over these states.

The weather will start improving by mid-September. Until then on and off rains are likely to continue.
