Rain in East India reduces but to continue in Northeast

The region comprising of East and Northeast India is the most rainfall deficient region of the country as of now. This part of the country has received 13% less rains than normal as of September 22.

For the last few days, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh have been receiving continuous good showers whereas other places like Odisha, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal have been witnessing on and off good rains. However, now only Gangetic West Bengal is rainfall surplus by 2%. All other places are marginally rain deficient.

Over all, this Monsoon turned out to be a good season for entire East India as it has been blessed with timely and well distributed rainfall.

Normal rains are quite high for Northeast India. Therefore, despite of good rains these areas are rain deficient. This part of the country, including sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, will continue to witness good rains.

Scattered rains are likely over the foothills of Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. Rainfall intensity will decrease significantly over Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Only light rains will continue for the next few days because fresh weather systems are not approaching the area.

This year Monsoon withdrawal has been delayed as easterly winds are still prevailing over the entire Indo-Gangetic plains.
