Rain in Dhaka could spoil semifinals in T20 Cricket World Cup

After remaining unbeaten in Super 10 stage, the Indian cricket team is gearing up for knockouts and it will be up against South Africa in the second semifinal match at Mirpur, in the outskirts of Dhaka in Bangladesh, on Friday.

But weather would be a major concern for the players on both sides as there are chances of rain and dew. According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rain is expected on Thursday and Friday evening and could hit both the semifinal matches of the tournament.

The latest weather update shows a cyclonic circulation which is expected to emerge over Jharkhand and adjoining areas of West Bengal in India and then move northeastwards to possibly bring rain in Dhaka and adjoining areas on Thursday and Friday.

Recent matches of the tournament have not been affected by dew, although now the southwesterly winds will keep the chances of intensification of dew quite high. The weather update also shows that in case rain does not occur, dew might spoil the game in second half as humidity levels would be high owing to winds from the Bay of Bengal.

If the second semifinal match washes out, India will qualify for the final by the virtue of better net run-rate. India has a net run-rate of +1.280 while that of South Africa is +0.075.
