Light rain along with dust storm and thunderstorm lashed Delhi-NCR twice on Monday, bringing huge relief from the scorching heat. Palam Observatory recorded 6 mm of rain, while Safdurjung received 2.9 mm.
First thundershower was observed during afternoon, which was responsible for dropping the temperatures. While the second spell was around 6:30 pm and was more severe, giving light rain along with lightning and thunderstorm.
Squally winds of range from 60 kmph to 80 kmph was also observed over several parts of the city.
In wake of this, temperature which was around 35°C at 6:30 pm dropped to 23°C at 8 pm.
After almost two weeks of recording day temperatures above 40°C, national capital registered a drop in the maximum and settled at 37°C that is three degrees below normal.
Minimum temperature also witnessed a significant drop of five degrees at 22.8°C. Good news for Delhiites is that these temperatures are expected to sustain for next 24 to 48 hours as well.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, there are chances of light rain along with dust storm and thunderstorm during the later part of Tuesday as well.
A cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Haryana and adjoining Rajasthan which is triggering these weather activities over the city.
