Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan and Delhi will start to receive rain and thundershower activities. These weather activities will be seen between January 6 and January 8. Initially, rains will be seen over Punjab, North Rajasthan and some parts of Haryana. These rains will be attributed to the Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayan region and its induced Circulation over the plains

Gradually, these rains will start impacting Delhi and western parts of Uttar Pradesh as well. We expect, on January 7 and 8, good rains will be seen over most parts of Northwest India. However, Delhi is only to see patchy scattered rainfall between night of January 6 and 8.

Due to cloud cover along with rainfall activities, the maximum temperatures will see a drop over Punjab by January 7, which may lead to the commencement of cold day conditions over the state and Haryana as well. On January 7 and 8, temperatures will also see a drop over Delhi and northern parts of Rajasthan resulting in cold day conditions over isolated pockets.

After the passage of this weather activity, which is by January 9, wherein rains will reduce and weather will start to clear up, icy cold winds from the Western Himalayas will start to blow over the plains.

Initially, from January 9, minimum temperatures over West Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan will also start dropping. Delhi will also see significant drop in the minimums from about 7 to 8 degrees to 4 degrees, resulting in cold day and cold wave conditions.
