Rain in Delhi may play spoilsport on International Yoga Day

Rain in Delhi may play spoilsport on International Yoga DayFor the past three days, Delhiites have been reeling under hot weather conditions. The last spell of rain during the weekend had brought some respite from the heat but, the temperatures have again risen and are hovering around the 40 degree Celsius mark.

However, residents of the national capital will once again heave a sigh of relief as a wet spell is approaching the city. Winds over Delhi have already changed to moist south easterlies which will cause a drop in the temperatures and increase the humidity levels.

A significant system from the Bay of Bengal will move inland extending into a deep layer. Also, a cyclonic circulation is coming up over Rajasthan and adjoining areas. These systems will combine to form a trough which will cause thunderstorm/rain over North and Central India, including Delhi-NCR.

The rainfall activity is expected to commence late night on Saturday. Light patchy rain is also expected on Sunday morning, which may play spoilsport on the International Yoga Day event. On June 21, a highly elaborate event has been organized at the majestic Rajpath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in this occasion. Around 37000 people are expected to join the function.

For securing the Yoga venue, around 5,000 armed security personnel which includes Delhi policemen have been deployed. Also, to make sure everything works well, 18 DCPs will be on duty. The 35-minute Yoga programme is scheduled to begin at 7.30 am. The event is expected to conclude by 10 am on Sunday, traffic restrictions will be held up only after the event comes to an end.

This rainy spell is expected to continue for the next three days with increasing intensity. The weather on Sudnay will be cloudy with high humidity levels. However, conditions will be comfortable as cool winds will blow over the region.
