The Republic Day celebrations conclude with the beating retreat on January 29 at the Vijay Chowk, marking the end of the festivities. This year, Republic Day was fairly alright in terms of weather conditions and only sky-obscured conditions were observed, other than that, no dampener was seen.
However, weatherwise, the risk is bigger during the beating retreat. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas, which will also induce a Cyclonic Circulation over the plains. With this, on January 29, rains may be seen over Delhi and the NCR region in the evening and night hours, which may play spoilsport at the beating retreat.
The beating retreat started in the year 1955 and is the culmination of Republic day festivities, held after 3 days of Republic Day. It is a two hour long program, and concludes around the sunset. The band services of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force as well as the Indian Navy take part in the beating retreat with the President of India being the Chief Guest of the event.
All in all, rains may play a spoilsport during the beating retreat ceremony on January 29.
