Rain in Delhi leads to drop in maximum temperature

March 1, 2014 12:39 PM |

The upper air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and neighbouring areas is keeping the weather cloudy and rainy in Delhi/NCR. Delhiites woke up to a cloudy morning and rain could commence at any time of the day. The Western Disturbance which is bringing light rain and snow in the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, will work in tandem with the circulation to bring rain in this region.

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded 9.7 mm of rain while the other Observatory at Palam recorded 17.2 mm of rain yesterday.

Temperature in Delhi

Rain in Delhi led to a significant drop in day temperatures on Friday. The maximum came down to 21.3°C from 25.3°C on Thursday, at the Safdarjung Observatory. Similarly, Palam recorded 20.8°C  as the maximum, against 25.8°C on Thursday. Today as well, a cloudy sky will not allow any significant change and the day temperature will remain around 20°C.  As predicted, night was comfortable and the minimum temperature recorded today morning was 12°C. The easterly winds blowing across the northern plains will be replaced by cool northerly winds. Consequently, minimum temperatures are likely to drop after 24 hours over the northern plains including Delhi.

The cloudy weather in Delhi will start clearing up from tomorrow as the Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulation will move eastwards.
