February 20, 2014 3:08 PM |

Rain in Delhi on 21st and 22nd of February could dampen the spirits of literature enthusiasts planning to visit the on-going New Delhi World Book Fair to be held from 15th to 23rd February. The book fair which began in Pragati Maidan last Saturday focuses on ‘literature for children.’ However, according to latest weather update by Skymet's Meteorology Division in India, Delhi/NCR will receive light rain and thundershowers from Friday night.

Children eagerly waiting for the last period bell of Friday will have to bear the brunt of rain in Delhi as their folks will not be very keen to take their kids out in wet weather condition. In India this book fair, being held for the past 41 years, holds immense importance and is a major calendar event in the publishing world.

The Guest of Honour country- Poland

A strong Polish delegation including Kataryzyna Kaceperczyk, the Hon’ble Secretary, Public and Economic Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Monika Smolen, Hon’ble Secretary, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland have graced the event. The fair has also been revered by authors, artists and publishers from Poland. This Guest of Honour Presentation of Poland aims to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Indo-Polish diplomatic ties.

The nine-day fair themed on ‘Kathasagara-Celebrating Children's Literature’ was inaugurated by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee and organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) in collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).

The President of India reiterated the fact that "no human society can develop in all its dimensions without books” which “carry the wisdom of generations.” He also reminded us that “book fairs are a source of multiple inspirations” and helps us to “understand literature, traditions and perception of other countries.”
