Andhra Pradesh is divided into two sub-divisions namely Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. However, this season both the regions have performed differently.

Monsoon showed good performance over Coastal Andhra Pradesh but Rayalaseema remained among the most rain deficient regions of the country.

As of September 16, Coastal Andhra Pradesh is rain surplus by 4% and Rayalaseema is largely rain deficient by 43%.

However, during the last 24 hours, due to the cyclonic circulation over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and nearby areas, the entire state of Andhra Prdaesh received widespread rainfall activity, wherein heavy to very heavy rains were witnessed over Rayalaseema region and light to moderate rains over the coastal stations.

Anantapur which lies in Rayalaseema recorded extremely heavy three-digit rains to the tune of 171 mm. Other districts of Rayalaseema such as Tirupathi and Kurnool also recorded rains at 46 mm and 10 mm.

Now we expect a low-pressure area to form in the Bay of Bengal during the next 24-48 hours, which is expected to be close to the coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh. It is also likely to become a depression.

Therefore, for the next two days, light to moderate rainfall activity is expected to continue over most parts of the state.

However, further from September 20, after the formation of low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, coastal parts are likely to receive heavy rains, which may even cause some localized flooding situations. Meanwhile, only light rains will occur over Rayalaseema region.
