Chennai rains usually remain on the backseat during the Southwest Monsoon unlike other metro cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi. The city generally sees light rainfall activity with a few moderate rains on some occasions. In fact, rainfall activity over Chennai only increases during a break Monsoon phase or when Southwest Monsoon goes weak over most parts of the country.
For the past few days, Chennai rains have remained light in nature. A few moderate spells have also been witnessed over the city. As far as the last 24 hours are concerned, moderate rainfall activity has been observed over the state capital.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Nungambakkam observatory recorded 19 mm of rains while Minambakkam observatory witnessed rains to the tune of 8 mm.
These rainfall activities are attributed to the presence of an off-shore trough along the East Coast. Now, rains over the city of Chennai is expected to reduce over the city. However, light rainfall activity will continue over the city.
Talking about temperatures, they will continue to settle in the mid-30s while minimums will range in the mid-20s.
