Chennai Rains

In the month of October, Tamil Nadu received excess rainfall activity. In fact, as of October 7, the state of Tamil Nadu is largely rain surplus by 133%.

However, talking about the capital city Chennai, it observed a prolonged dry spell during the last 10 days of September.

But the month of October commenced on a rainy note for the city of Chennai and since October 1, Chennai has been receiving on and off rains.

Between October 3 and 5, Chennai received moderate to heavy showers. Due to these good rains, Chennai has become largely excess. In fact, as on October 7, the city of Chennai has received surplus rain of about 147%.

The two weather systems which were responsible for good rains over Chennai have become insignificant. The low-pressure area which developed over Southeast Arabian Sea has intensified into a Cyclone while moving away northwest wards and now has no impact over Chennai.

The cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal has also weakened now. We expect scattered rains to continue over Chennai for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, intensity will go down significantly, and we expect on and off light rains over the city.

The present comfortable weather conditions will become warm, humid and slightly uncomfortable as the temperatures are expected to start rising. Now, as Northeast Monsoon is going to set in soon therefore, on and off rains will continue over the state along with Chennai.
