Some parts of the state of Tamil Nadu recorded Light rains during the last 24 hours. In fact, particularly the interior and north coastal districts saw some rainfall activity. Moreover, Chennai also recorded light rains last night at around 8 pm.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Dharmapuri saw 7 mm rainfall, Vellore recorded 5 mm of rains, Coonoor recorded 7.1 mm of rains, Coimbatore 0.3 mm, Chennai 0.1 mm, Kanyakumari 5 mm, Kodaikanal 1.2 mm, Salem 6.6 mm.

Presently, there is no significant weather system over the state of Tamil Nadu due to which dry weather conditions will continue over southern parts of the state. However, isolated light rains cannot be ruled out over the northern districts of Tamil Nadu.

Weather in Chennai will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with chances of very light rains in some pockets of the city. The monthly average for Chennai in July stands at 103.8 mm. Until now, the city has recorded over half the monthly mean in just one good spell which occurred on July 2 when Nungambakkam saw 60 mm of rains and Minambakkam saw 50 mm.
With this, cities of Puducherry, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Vellore may see light rainfall only. In fact, rains are not expected to increase in the coming days also.
Chennai along with the entire state of Tamil Nadu lies in the rain shadow area due to which rains are on the lesser side usually also unlike the West Coast which sees heavy rainfall activities.
