Rain in Chennai, parts of Tamil Nadu to continue for some time

The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing on and off rainfall activities for the past many days. Moreover, the last 24 hours also saw some rainfall activity.

Currently, a trough is extending from North Interior Karnataka to Comorin across Tamil Nadu. A cyclonic circulation is also over northern parts of Tamil Nadu due to which scattered rains have already occurred over interior parts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai has also seen light to moderate rainfall during late afternoon and evening hours of September 13.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Chennai saw a good 18 mm of rainfall, Thanjavur recorded 11 mm rains, Dharmapuri 2 mm, Salem 1 mm, and traces of rains over Kodaikanal.

Now, these two weather systems will increase rain activities over Tamil Nadu during the next 2 to 3 days. Scattered rains will continue over the state. On September 15 and 16, few moderate spells of rains along with a couple of heavy showers over South Coastal Tamil Nadu including Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Tuticorin, and Ramanathapuram.

Chennai may also receive on and off rains during the next three to four days. At present, the state of Tamil Nadu is observing a rainfall deficiency of -13 percent which is in the normal range.
