In the same span of time, other districts of Tamil Nadu such as Vellore, Kanyakumari, and Nagapattinam too recorded light rain. Now, these rains and thundershowers are likely to pick up pace. All thanks to the Low-Pressure area, which has formed over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal. The system is moving in northwest direction and is intensifying gradually.
As per Skymet Weather, light to moderate rains with isolated heavy showers are expected over northern parts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai may also receive few good spells during the next 24 to 48 hours. Places such as Vellore, Cuddalore, Puducherry, and Dharmapuri will witness rain.

Thereafter, the weather of Chennai will become dry as the weather system will move closer to the coast of Andhra Pradesh and hence, the moisture feed over Chennai will cut off. Simultaneously, the intensity of rain over the northern districts of Tamil Nadu will also decrease and the weather will become almost dry over most parts of Tamil Nadu after 24 to 48 hours.
As on October 15, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is rain surplus by 31 percent.
