The states of Punjab and Haryana including the capital city of Chandigarh witnessed hot weather conditions during the last days of April. Pre-Monsoon activities also rarely made an appearance in both the states.

However, good pre-Monsoon activities in the form of dust storm and thundershowers were observed over many parts of Punjab and Haryana during the last 24 hours.

Reason for these activities was the cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana and the Western Disturbance which was over Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the combined effect of both the systems, pre-Monsoon activities occurred over both the states.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, many places of Haryana recorded rainfall activity: Narnaul 35 mm, Ambala 7.6 mm, Kurukshetra 3.4 mm, Chandigarh 1.2 mm, Karnal 8 mm, Faridabad 1 mm, Hisar 0.6 mm.

In the same time span, many districts of Punjab also received rainfall activity: Anandpur 23.6 mm, Jalandhar 4 mm, Patiala 3.2 mm, Ludhiana 1.7 mm, Amritsar 0.2 mm, Pathankot 1 mm.

Currently, the cyclonic circulation has shifted towards east and is now seen over Haryana and adjoining Rajasthan. The winds are still easterly/south easterly and will continue to feed moisture over Haryana and Punjab therefore, we expect scattered rain and thundershowers over northern parts of Punjab and over few places of Haryana during the next 24 hours.

Both day and night temperatures have dropped by 3-5 degrees. Further we do not expect the temperatures to rise much for at least next 48 hours.
