Rainfall in East India so far has not been up to the mark. Barring Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh, all other states in the region are currently rain deficient by a large margin. As of February 10, Gangetic West Bengal is observing a rainfall deficiency of 94%, followed by Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim at 61%, Jharkhand 73% and Odisha 91%.

However, during the last week, scattered rains occurred over many parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh and at a few places in Jharkhand and Odisha. Now another spell of rain and thundershower is expected to commence over East India. Wherein we expect scattered rains to commence over East Uttar Pradesh on February 14.

From February 15, rains will cover more parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Interior Odisha and isolated pockets of West Bengal. These scattered rains are expected to continue till February 16. During this period, we expect isolated hailstorm activity to occur over Jharkhand and Odisha.

The reason for the occurrence of these rains will be an east-west trough which will extend from Uttar Pradesh to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal across Bihar. A confluence zone is also expected to develop over Jharkhand and Odisha.

February 17 onwards, the weather will once again become dry in East India and the rainfall activity will shift towards the northeastern states of the country.
