Rain in Bihar and Jharkhand to continue

August 24, 2018 3:16 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Few places in Bihar and Jharkhand recorded heavy rain showers in the past day. In fact, during the last 24 hours, Purnea recorded 73 mm of rain, followed by Bhagalpur 3.4 mm, Farbesganj 5.2 mm, Muzaffarpur 3 mm, Patna 1 mm and Daltonganj 13.8 mm.

The eastern end of axis of Monsoon trough which was running south of its normal position has once again shifted over Bihar and the other end is extending up to East central Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Therefore, we expect rain intensity to increase over Jharkhand and Bihar. Moderate to heavy showers may occur over the state for at least next two to three days.

Although eastern parts of Bihar have received few very heavy spells recently but further many other districts are also expected to start receiving good rainfall activity.

As of August 24, Jharkhand is rain deficient by 28% and Bihar is rain deficient by 22%. These rains will continue till the end of the month but by the end of August we expect rain deficiency over both these states to reduce by some extent.

Moreover, these rains may boost the farmers of Bihar and Jharkhand, as kharif crop will be largely benefitted with these heavy rain showers.
