During the last 24 hours, moderate rains with few heavy spells have occurred over East Madhya Pradesh. These rains were due to the influence of the Low-Pressure Area which was over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Southeast Uttar Pradesh. Light scattered rains were seen over West Madhya Pradesh. Like Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Sidhi and Umaria recorded 76 mm, 77 mm, 27 mm, 43 mm, and 32 mm of rains, respectively.
Now, we expect rains to continue over the eastern districts of the state and now the rain belt will also cover West Madhya Pradesh. These intermittent rains are expected to continue over many parts of the state until August 23 and it will be light to moderate in nature with one or two heavy spells.
However, isolated pockets may receive rains in the range of 60-80 mm which might trigger flash floods in limited areas. Already many districts of the state are battling flood-like situation.
The experts have to say that the rain intensity might decrease post August 23 but another spell of moderate rains may re-appear over East Madhya Pradesh around August 25 as a series of Cyclonic Circulation or Low-Pressure Area are expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal which might travel towards Madhya Pradesh and further impact the eastern and central districts of the state. Hence, we can say that until August 27, on and off rains will continue with short breaks in between. Jabalpur, Damoh, Sagar, Hoshangabad, Bhopal are likely to receive these intermittent rains up till August 27.
