Rajasthan has been recording unseasonal rains for the last 48 hours, with intensity of rains from moderate to heavy over most of the places. Barmer was one such pocket wherein rains broke year old records.

The city had recorded 58 mm of rains on November 14 and 42 mm on November 15. With 100 mm of rain in span of 48 hours, Barmer has broken all time high record for monthly rainfall in November, which earlier stood at 54 mm in November, 2010. Not only this, the desert city has recorded highest rainfall ever recorded in span of 24 hours.

In fact, more rains are likely to drench parts of Rajasthan including Barmer on Friday. We can expect moderate rains and thundershowers but with reduced intensity. These ongoing rain can be attributed to the presence of multiple weather systems. There is a Western Disturbance over  Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is seen over North Rajasthan. Another cyclonic circulation is marked over Southwest Rajasthan. Besides this, remnants of Cyclone Maha in form of humid winds are reaching over the state.

Rains are likely to fade away by tomorrow, with effecting weather systems weakening.

According to Skymet Weather, Barmer's monthly average rainfall for November stands at mere 1.4 mm. As per weathermen, Barmer is a sleepy pocket as far as weather is concerned. The city just witnesses dust storm during the pre-Monsoon season. Monsoon also makes an appearance for a very short span and that is the only time when the city records rain.

However, for the next six months i.e. from October to March, the weather over Barmer remains practically dry with just 9.8 mm of rains during this period.
