East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh continued with moderate to heavy showers during the last 24 hours as a cyclonic circulation was persisting over Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, rains were subdued over remaining northeastern states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Passighat recorded heavy rain to the tune of 59.3 mm, North Lakhimpur 39.4 mm, Jorhat 21.8 mm, Tinsukia 20.9 mm, Cherrapunji 13.6 mm, Dibrugarh 12 mm, Itanagar and Kohima 4.2 mm, Silchar 2.6 mm, Aizwal 1mm, Imphal 0.2 mm.

Now, we expect moderate rains with one or two heavy showers to occur over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Thereafter, rain intensity will reduce over all these states but scattered light to moderate rains will commence over Tripura and Mizoram.

Therefore, we can say that after 48 hours, heavy showers will take a hold over the area but on and off light to moderate rainfall activity will continue over the northeastern states. Thus, resulting in rain deficiency over the northeastern states.

In fact, at present as all northeastern states are rain deficient we do not expect much improvement in rain deficiency during the coming days as well.
