Vidarbha and Marathwada have been witnessing dry weather for the past few days. Moreover, the temperatures have been settling at least two to three degrees above the normal levels between the mid and high 30s. In fact, this region has remained the hottest pocket so far.

Currently, a trough is extending from Chhattisgarh across Vidarbha and Marathwada towards Telangana. Also, the system in the Arabian Sea off the Karnataka is having its impact in terms of cloud cover over the region.

In fact, the region has been witnessing cloud cover which has already suppressed the day temperatures. Due to this, maximums may already see some drops today only. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures may not see much change.

As per weathermen, during the next 24 hours, thunderstorm and rains may occur over the region towards the later part of the day. Hailstorm activity also cannot be ruled out over these areas. Usually, excessive high temperatures act as a trigger making it more conducive for the occurrence of hailstorm in the region.

Today, the northern parts may see some rains during the evening hours while rainfall activity is expected to shift towards the south tomorrow. Clearance is expected on March 17.

Thus, today, cities of Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed may see some rains. On the other hand, rainfall is expected to lash the cities of Nanded, Osmanabad, Parbhani, Yavatmal, and Washim tomorrow.

Let’s see the impact of weather over the agriculture belt of Vidarbha and Marathwada:

Farmers should complete harvesting of Wheat, Jowar and Safflower due to upcoming rainfall and hailstorms. Due to variations in temperature and cloud cover since yesterday, chances of pest attack may increase on vegetables and Groundnut. Therefore, farmers are requested to closely watch vegetable crops.

Farmers are also recommended to not irrigate Groundnut and Maize crop considering rainfall forecast in next 1-2 days. Meanwhile,  it is advised to continue harvesting of Orange, Grapes, Mosambi and pomegranate as well.
