Rain, hailstorm to lash Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi

February 4, 2017 4:06 PM | Skymet Weather Team

As predicted by Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers are likely to drench several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and West Uttar Pradesh during the weekend.

Weather has already become cloudy and rains may follow soon by the late evening hours of Saturday over Punjab, Haryana, and West Rajasthan. Some areas of Punjab and Haryana can witness few spells of hail storm as well.

Rain belt will soon cover Delhi-NCR and adjoining parts of West Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. However, intensity over these areas will be less over these areas as compared to rest of the states.

These rains can be attributed the fresh Western Disturbance that has started affecting Jammu and Kashmir that has also induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas. Both the systems are gradually moving in east direction.

Moreover, southwesterly winds from Arabian Sea are also increasing the level of moisture over the northwestern plains.
Thus, we can expect light to moderate rain and thundershowers over the plains during the 24 to 48 hours. The rainy spell is likely to continue to till Sunday, reducing thereafter.

These rains also likely to drop both the maximum and minimum temperatures across the plains, which have been settling well above normal for the last few days.
