Pre-Monsoon showers usually commence during April in Nashik. However, this year had a different story to tell. The last time that the city received traces of rain was on March 27. April has remained dry for most of the northern parts of Maharashtra.
However, heavy Pre-Monsoon showers accompanied with hailstorm and high velocity winds was observed in Nashik yesterday. The city recorded 38 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, which happens to be the highest 24-hour rain in a decade during the month of May.
In fact, the monthly highest rainfall for Nashik stands at 42.7 mm which was recorded in May 2014. The monthly average rain for the city is 20 mm which means that Nashik has surpassed the rainfall amount in just a span of 24 hours.
Usually, April and May are the hottest months for Nashik and the city only records light rain during this time. With these rains, both maximums and minimums have also witnessed a drop resulting in comfortable weather conditions.
Skymet also has a few Automatic Weather Stations in several stations in the Nashik districts that keep a record of weather activities. Let’s take a look at the rainfall recorded by Skymet’s AWS:
Since there is no crop at the moment, hailstorm has not posed much damage to the city. More rains are expected to lash Nashik which will result in comfortable evenings and keep temperatures under check.
