Rain, hailstorm lash Chandigarh, parts of Punjab and Haryana

February 25, 2018 7:38 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The states of Punjab and Haryana have not had a very fruitful December and January in terms of rainfall activity. As far as the winter rains are concerned, they have remained on the lower side both the adjoining states.

The reason for the lack of rain can be attributed to the less active Western Disturbances over the Western Himalayas which failed to induce any significant system over the Northwestern Plains.

However, come February and the region has seen some improvement in terms of rains. In fact, the last 24 hours were also good enough for both the states.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Pathankot observed 13 mm of rain, Chandigarh recorded 5.1 mm of rain, Jalandhar 10.1 mm, Ludhiana 5 mm, Ambala 5.4 mm, Amritsar 1.1 mm, and Patiala 1 mm.

These rainfall activities were attributed to the induced cyclonic circulation which was in proximity over the region. However, now, weather will once again go dry over the region and due to continuous approach of Western Disturbances over the Western Himalayas, maximums may see a rise.
