Rain, hailstorm in Punjab, Haryana to drop day temperatures

February 11, 2018 7:11 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The Northwest Plains have been witnessing dry weather conditions for quite some time now. So much so that the last time the states of Punjab and Haryana recorded some significant amount of rains was around January 22 and 23. Thereafter, mostly dry weather conditions have been observed over both these states.

The reason for no rainfall activity over these regions can be attributed to the absence of any significant weather system in proximity of the states. However, good news in the form of rain and thundershower awaits the residents of both Punjab as well as Haryana.

Presently, a Western Disturbance is persisting over Northwest Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, its induced cyclonic circulation is over Haryana and adjoining Punjab region. Thus, due to both these systems, rain and thundershowers are expected over both these states.

Not only this, hailstorm activity is also possible in some parts. Thus, the state of Punjab is expected to receive rain and thunderstorm of light to moderate intensity between February 11 and 13. Meanwhile, rain intensity and duration will be slightly less over Haryana. The state will receive rains tonight as well as tomorrow.

Due to these rainfall activities, day temperatures are expected to witness a significant fall resulting in slightly colder days. Thus, maximums may come back to the teens which were now settling in the 20s.
