In the last 24 hours, scattered light rainfall activity was observed over the northern parts of Punjab. Meanwhile, rest parts of Punjab and Haryana remained almost dry with partly cloudy sky.

Now, a fresh Western Disturbance has approached the Western Himalayas. It has induced a cyclonic circulation which lies over central parts of Pakistan. This circulation will gradually move towards Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan.

Thus, intensity and spread of these rains will increase over Punjab region. In fact, some parts of Haryana may also receive scattered rains starting tonight. These on and off, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue till February 22 over both these states.

The intensity of rains will be more over Punjab as compared to Haryana. Moreover, in both these states the main affected regions will be northern districts such as Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Karnal.

In the wake of these rains, strong winds accompanied with hailstorm activity cannot be ruled out. Even though the intensity of hailstorm will be much lesser than the one experienced on February 7. But still minor damage to the crops is still a chance.

Further, by February 22 the successive weather systems will move eastwards and rains will start vacating the northwestern plains including Punjab and Haryana.
