After witnessing intense heat the last week, the notorious Indian weather once again proved unpredicted and showered over the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. These pre-Monsoon showers were accompanied by hailstorm activity as well.

April remained harsh for Gujarat which witnessed rising mercury levels. The temperatures a few days back were settling near the 40-degree mark. In fact, heatwave to severe heatwave also prevailed over a few districts of Gujarat during the mid-month.

Due to increased humidity and the moisture incursion winds blowing from the Arabian Sea, chances of pre-monsoon activities increased and thus yesterday few thunder clouds developed over Southern Rajkot. This has further resulted in isolated thunderstorm and hailstorm activities.

Rains along with hailstorms were observed in parts of Rajkot, Amreli, and Jamnagar on Tuesday. Furthermore, this sudden change in weather and the unseasonal rainfall also affected the mango crop in the region. Rains also wrath the onion crops that was lying on the open field after being harvested in parts of Amreli and Bhavnagar.

However, these rains proved to be beneficial for the temperature profile as the mercury level did not rose beyond the 40-degree mark and settled below the level. From last few days, moderate winds from the Arabian Sea were blowing over Gujarat and Rajasthan. Due to these relatively cooler winds, temperatures have already subsided and severe heatwave conditions were abated. At present, even the temperatures are settling below normal.

As of now, no rains are expected over the region and the weather is once again expected to become dry. Though isolated thundery activity may occur but any significant rains are ruled out.
