Bhubaneswar had been mostly dry or with negligible rain throughout May. However, he Monsoon season has begun on a rainy not for this capital city of Odisha as the city was blessed with 20 mm rainfall in last 24 hours. Active pre-Monsoon showers are expected in the city till next few days.
Partly cloudy sky along with moderate rain is most likely to keep the soaring maximum temperature under check that was rapidly chasing the 40-degree mark in past couple of days.
Pre-Monsoon showers in Bhubaneswar are likely to prevail during another 24-48 hours as the trough from Punjab across Jharkhand and Odisha is travelling upto Andhra Pradesh. There is also a cyclonic circulation which has formed close to southern parts of Odisha. Both these weather systems will infuse moisture over rain bearing clouds that will continue to give rain over several parts of Odisha.
Bhubaneswar's monthly rainfall for June stands at almost 200 mm and in 24 hours the city has received one-tenth of its monthly rainfall. In view of active pre-Monsoon showers and Skymet Weather's forecast for above normal Monsoon 2016, Bhubaneswar may receive sufficient rainfall that will take it closer to its average rainfall for June.
