The month of July as well as August have been rainy for the state of Uttarakhand. So much so that the hilly state of North India has witnessing several flooded days and scores of landslides. In fact, many people have also been killed during this time.

It seems like Monsoon rains have decided not to take a breather and continue to wreak havoc over the state. The last 24 hours have also been rainy enough for the state and moderate to heavy Monsoon rains have been recorded over Uttarakhand.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Nainital recorded a whopping 45.7 mm, followed by Mussoorie where 30 mm rainfall was received. Other areas also received light to moderate rains including Pantnagar 23.6 mm, Uttarkashi 21.8 mm, Tehri 18.9 mm, Champawat 16 mm, Haridwar 13 mm, Dehradun 8.7 mm, Joshimath 7.4 mm, Almora 7.4 mm and Mukteshwar 5.4 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the Western Disturbance which is currently over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. The axis of the Monsoon trough is also in close proximity of the region.

During the next two to three days, moderate to heavy rains are expected to lash the state of Uttarakhand. To top it all, the possibility of landslides and floods also cannot be ruled out.

People who have been planning a getaway to one of the hilly beauties in Uttarakhand should also avoid travelling during this long weekend.
