The rain-related incidents have taken lives of 22 people so far while 8 are still missing in Pune and Jalgaon districts.

Torrential rains on Wednesday night had resulted in a wall collapse, while many vehicles and homes were washed away following hefty rains.

Pune has observed heavy rain in the last two to three days. The city had witnessed 53 mm of rain on Thursday in a span of 24 hours. On July 19 as well Pune had witnessed 28.8 mm of rain in just 45 minutes.

Due to heavy downpour in the city in the last couple of days, roads and small bridges have completely been covered by floodwaters and many nullahs overrunning their banks. The Katraj tunnel, connecting Pune to Satara on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway was also closed on Wednesday. There have also been reports of several trees and electricity poles along with transformers being uprooted.

Meanwhile, heavy rains coupled with lightning in Jalgaon have killed 5 people so far.

Meteorologists at Skymet have predicted an improvement in the ongoing flood situation as rains will reduce over entire Maharashtra now including Pune.

Likewise, many other parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, and Marathwada would see a drop in the rainfall activities. Rains would now vary between light to moderate in intensity.

It is only the Vidarbha region which stands a chance of witnessing isolated heavy spells of rain for another two days.
