Rain, fog likely to increase in Northeast India

Fog in Northeast

Winters are finally here, and with winters the arrival of fog can also be expected. Most areas of Northeast India usually see dense to very dense fog during the months of November and December. The fog formation is due to the close proximity of these areas to the Brahmaputra basin. However, till now only shallow to moderate fog has been witnessed over the states.

At present, the cyclonic circulation over Northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tripura persists.

Due to warm and moist winds mixing with comparatively cool and dry winds, scattered moderate fog may occur over South Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura.

Though morning temperatures will be near to normal or just a few degrees high in few parts, but day temperatures will remain at higher side of normal, with mostly dry and warm weather conditions.

Light southeasterly-easterly winds will prevail over most of Northeast India. With this, partly cloudy skies with possibility of little light rain are expected over Meghalaya and adjoining Assam.

Rain and fog may increase over many parts of Northeast India in the coming days.
