Rain expected in Delhi Friday night onwards

The heat that is usually observed during the month of March in the city is missing and the temperatures are recording below normal due to frequent spells of rain. In the last twelve days the average maximum temperature has settled at 24.5°C against 28.5°C, which is 4 degrees below normal.

And with another prolonged spell of rain expected in the city from Friday night onwards (March 13), the temperatures are going to drop further in Delhi. The intensity during the first two days (Friday, Saturday) will be light, picking up on Sunday and weakening thereafter.

On an average the city observes 1.5 rainy days with 13.5 mm of rain during the month. However, there has already been 75.5 mm of rain so far, which is the highest in last ten years. The previous high was 61.6 mm, observed in 2007. And with another spell of rain in the offing, the all-time record of 78.2 mm, witnessed in 1915 seems to be achievable for the city.

According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, year 2008, 2010 and 2012 were totally dry, while one spell of rain was observed in 2011. This year, in last ten days the city has already observed 2 good spells of rain, while another is in the offing.
