Rain deficient Himachal Pradesh to witness Monsoon showersThe state of Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing dry weather conditions for some time. Heavy rains have remained absent from the hilly state of North India for the past few days. While its neighbour, Uttarkhand had been reeling under floods last week, three digit rains were also lashing Dharamsala.

Heavy rains were a feature for Himachal Pradesh. However, these rains failed to cover for the rain deficit that the state has been observing. In fact, at present, the state of Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a rainfall deficit of 24 percent.

In fact, Himachal Pradesh has received 228 mm of rain against 300.1 mm making it fall in the below normal rainfall category. On July 22, Himachal Pradesh received 7.7 mm of rainfall against its daily average of 11.2 mm making it 31 percent rain deficient for the day.

Now, weather conditions are likely to change over the state. Many areas are expected to receive good Monsoon rains. These rains will be attributed to the axis of the Monsoon trough which is currently running very close to the foothills of the Himalayas.

The state is expected to receive good Monsoon rains between July 23 and 25. A few areas may also receive some heavy spells of rain during this period. This upcoming rainy spell may help in curbing the rainfall deficiency to some extent.
