At present, heat wave conditions are prevailing over parts of Vidarbha region in the state of Maharashtra. Also, temperatures of Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra are above normal. On the contrary, temperatures of Konkan and Goa are near normal or below normal. In fact, the weather of Maharashtra is running dry since April 17 on ward.
Now, we expect a trough to form over North Chhattisgarh to Rayalaseema across Southeast Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Marathwada around May 12. Due to this, we expect scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells over Vidarbha and Marathwada on May 11 and 12.
Until then northwesterly dry winds will continue over most parts of the state and temperatures will remain high.
However, heat wave is likely to abate from the Vidarbha region by May 11 or 12.
This year, pre-Monsoon activities remained few in the state and the upcoming pre-Monsoon activities will not be fairly widespread. They will be patchy with a few heavy spells. Rain intensity is also likely to remain light.
So, we can say that rain deficiency is likely to persist which might adversely affect the upcoming crops over the state. This is alarming as at present, the condition of water reservoirs in Maharashtra is less than 20% of the capacity.
