Rain Deficiency in Maharashtra at its peak, adverse impact on crops

Dry weather continues to persist over entire Maharashtra and as a result all the regions have been highly rain deficient throughout October. This high rain deficiency has adversely impact the crops of the state.

There are mainly three major crops grown in Maharashtra i.e. Soya bean, Cotton and Sugarcane. The ongoing dry weather conditions have adversely affected the growth of sugarcane as this crop is in its elongation stage and require sufficient rains for good quality of yield.

On the other hand, since Soyabean crop has  already been harvested, hence no major impact can be foreseen on its growth. Meanwhile, the second picking has already started for the cotton crop and ongoing dry weather conditions will not cause any adverse effect and will smoothly felicitate the second picking.

Generally, rains during October increase the soil moisture to felicitate smooth growth of upcoming Rabi crops. Unfortunately, Maharashtra has remained highly rain deficient for the entire month. Also, no rains are expected over the state for at least next 8-10 days. Hence, rain deficiency would greatly affect the crop's growth.

Moreover, the drought like situation has been persisting and dry weather has taken over the entire state. However, night temperatures are below normal, and night seems to be cool and pleasant. In the coming days, we expect marginal increase in minimum temperatures, but it will not have any major impact and pleasant weather is expected to set in.
