Rain brings much needed relief to Kochi

April 8, 2014 4:34 PM |

Good amounts of rain (19 mm) in the last 24 hours has provided much needed relief from the hot and humid weather in Kochi.

According to media reports, rain lasted for several hours in Kochi resulting in water logging at many places. Since the city corporation did not complete the pre-monsoon cleaning works, the drains and canals overflowed.

However, the heavy downpour on Monday evening turned out to be a relief to locals who had been witnessing intense heat and high humidity of 80 to 90 per cent. Maximum temperature in Kochi in the last few days had been consistently settling between 34⁰C and 35⁰C. Minimum too was recording on the higher side, between 26⁰C and 28⁰C.

This spell of rain forced minimums to drop by 2 notches and record 23⁰C as opposed to yesterday’s minimum temperature of 25⁰C.

Skymet had earlier predicted a good spell of pre-monsoon showers across the state of Kerala, in view of a new system developing in the Arabian Sea. According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rainy weather in Kerala, especially in cities like Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram will be observed for a couple of days.

“We are hoping for Kochi to receive more rain in the coming days as the normal rainfall figure for the month of April is 94.8 mm”, says G.P Sharma of Skymet Meteorology Division.

The mean average maximum and minimum temperature for Kochi is 32.9⁰C and 25.9⁰C respectively.
