Rain belt shifting from east to central India

August 22, 2013 3:44 PM |

The rain belt is expected to shift from east to central India as the deep depression over Chhattisgarh and northeast Madhya Pradesh is likely to move in a west northwest direction during the next two days. Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Chhattisgarh will have moderate to heavy rain during the period.

In the eastern parts, rain will reduce gradually but light rain will be received at a few places during the next 24 hour. East Uttar Pradesh,Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and some parts of Orissa will get these rains. The below normal temperatures here will rise with reduction in rain.

In northwest region, intensity of rain has decreased except for east Rajasthan where light to moderate rain may continue due to presence of the axis of monsoon trough. But Punjab and parts of Haryana and west Rajasthan will witness subdued rain compared to what they had received in the last few days. Light rain with patchy moderate spells could occur in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, southwest Uttar Pradesh and the national capital Delhi.

In southern peninsula, rain will remain subdued. Mainly light rain could be witnessed in south interior Karnataka. South Konkan and Karnataka coast may have one or two moderate spells. The reason for the subdued rain along the West coast is lack of a weather system in the Arabian Sea. The winds over interior parts are westerly that fails to bring any surge in the region.

In northeast states, due to lack of a weather system, southwesterly winds will fail to intensify rain thus increasing the temperatures here. Hilly regions may receive one or two moderate spells.
